The red carpet was rolled out at Tyneside Cinema on Thursday night as the cast and crew of new BBC drama Northumbria Mysteries, including North East acting legend Robson Green, stepped out for its premiere in Newcastle. Guests were treated to popcorn in branded boxes to celebrate the launch of the series.
Filmed across Northumberland
Residents in various towns across Northumberland got a front row seat earlier this year as cameras rolled on the latest show from North East based production company Lonesome Pine, the firm behind Channel 5 hits like The Feud and The Fortune. Robson and the rest of the Northumbria Mysteries cast were spotted in a real mix of places during the production period, including Alnwick, Seahouses, Morpeth and Rothbury.
Now, just months later, the series is about to hit BBC One and iPlayer, with the first episode airing on Friday, October 23.
Cast and plot details
In the eight part drama, Robson plays Joe Ruby, an ex-convict and gambler with links to the criminal world, who teams up with Oxford-educated DI Rose O'Connell, played by Life on Mars actress Liz White, to solve crimes.
A captive audience of invited guests got to watch the first episode of Northumbria Mysteries at Thursday night's screening, which was followed by a panel discussion led by Look North icon Carol Malia. During the chat with the popular presenter, Robson spoke about how much he loved "working from home" and being able to drive to and from work every day, with co-stars Liz and Gurjeet Singh both full of praise for the region and the warm welcome they had from the people here during filming.
No spoilers, but stunning scenery
Everyone who was at the premiere was strictly instructed to not give away any plot spoilers ahead of the first episode airing at 2pm next Friday, but one thing we can definitely tell you is that the North East, just like it did on Vera for all those years, looks absolutely stunning on screen, with some stunning aerial shots of landmarks like Dunstanburgh Castle.
