Harry Kane and Bayern Munich have reached a verbal agreement over a new deal, even though it falls 12 months short of the striker's desired contract length. The England forward has been a major success since moving to the Allianz Arena in 2023, breaking numerous records and winning multiple trophies. His performances have made him one of the favourites for this year's Ballon d'Or.
Deal worth £400,000-a-week agreed
Kane and Bayern have both been keen to extend terms given the success he has enjoyed. A deal worth £400,000-a-week has been verbally agreed, with the former Tottenham player set to remain at the Allianz Arena until 2029.
The 33-year-old had been looking for a contract that ran until 2030, but the German club stuck by their stance of a two-year extension. Talks have been ongoing since Kane returned from the World Cup, according to The Times.
Contract finalisation before Ballon d'Or
Bayern's plan is to finalise the contract extension before the Ballon d'Or ceremony on October 26. Max Eberl, the club's director of sport, recently said: "There are talks behind the scenes and they have gone well."
Kane's current deal expires at the end of the season, which would allow him to leave for free, but there has never been any suggestion that the striker wants to move elsewhere. Off the pitch, Kane and his family are known to be enjoying life in Germany, which has increased their desire to stay with the Bavarians.
Record-breaking form continues
On the pitch, Kane has been prolific. In September, he scored his 100th Bundesliga goal in his 98th Bundesliga appearance, breaking a record dating back to 1977. Since joining Bayern, he has won two Bundesliga titles, with the first being the first major trophy of his career. He has also won last season's German Cup and the German Super Cup in the last two years.
Last season, Kane scored 61 goals in 51 games, the highest single-season total of his career, underlining his status as one of Europe's top strikers. Choosing to stay in Germany makes it less likely that Kane will break the all-time Premier League goalscoring record, currently held by Alan Shearer. When Kane left, he had 213 goals, 37 short of Shearer's record. By the end of the 2028/29 season, Kane will be about to turn 36.
