Rivals Star Scholey Recalls Out of Body Experience

Rivals actress Annabel Scholey has described experiencing an "out of body experience" while filming an unforgettable scene alongside Danny Dyer.

Disney+ dropped the first three episodes of the hit drama's second series yesterday (Friday, May 15), whisking viewers back to the seductive world of 1980s Rutshire and its colourful inhabitants.

Among the returning cast, Annabel, 42, reprised her role as cutthroat journalist Beattie Johnson, delighting fans with her comeback.

Just hours before the series launched, the actress joined her co-star Katherine Parkinson, who portrays romantic novelist Lizzie Vereker, at a preview screening in Bristol, where the majority of the show was shot.

Speaking to The Mirror's Screen Time team on the red carpet, Annabel revealed a moment on set with Danny Dyer that she will "remember forever", describing it as an "out of body experience."

The star recalled: "We have a sequence later on where we are dancing to a particular piece of music that everyone will recognise and it went on for quite a few days and we were all dressed in full glam - I can't tell you what it is but it was just... We were all in line and it's iconic."

Elaborating further, she continued: "There were smoke machines and everyone was smoking and blasting the music out. I thought 'what the hell am I doing?'"

She added: "Danny Dyer was stood next to me and I thought 'what is happening, I'm having an out of body experience' that will definitely be something I will remember forever."

The production took place at the studios, which belong to Bristol City Council, with the majority of filming locations situated within a 30-mile radius of Bristol.

Annabel, a Wiltshire resident, acknowledged the convenience of working locally. She said: "I live not far from Bristol, I live in the South West. I moved here a while ago - about four years ago and I love it, I love it so much. It was really nice for me to go and work at home and travel back."

She added: "I love it, I think it is a really exciting place to work, there is so much filming happening here and all the different landscapes in Bristol that you can use. You can be in a period drama for one minute and have a water chase and action show, it's just so diverse and I think that's what makes it a really exciting place to be. It's really nice, it's really good."

The upcoming series, adapted from the late Dame Jilly Cooper's 1988 novel of the same title, resumes following the explosive cliffhanger from the first season, where Cameron Cook (portrayed by Nafessa Williams) left her boss, Tony Baddingham (David Tennant), for dead after striking him with an award trophy.

In an unexpected development, Tony lived and is now determined to exact revenge on Cameron and her new collaborators Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) and Declan O'Hara (Aidan Turner).

Rivals season 2 episodes 1-3 will be available to stream on Friday 15 May on Disney+.
