Death in Paradise's longest-serving detective, Ralf Little, takes on a new role in the upcoming Channel 4 thriller Hunting Alice Bell, set to premiere in November. The six-part series, created by David Baddiel with Peter Bradshaw, follows former nurse Alice Bell, who is also the lover and accomplice of a notorious anaesthetist serial killer.
According to Channel 4, Alice Bell is currently living in Britain under a new identity. When a woman named Fran Da Silva is accused online of being Alice Bell, her happy family life collapses under a wave of mob hate. She soon discovers she is not the only woman to suffer this fate, and she bands together with the other accused women to fight back and clear their names. However, as they battle to prove their innocence, a question lingers: what if one of the group is lying and is the real Alice Bell?
Cast and Characters
Ralf Little stars as Graham Hunter, while Alex Roach leads the cast as Fran. The ensemble includes Amanda Abbington as Julie, Emily Barber as Vanessa, Toni O'Rourke as Ros, Christina Bennington as Charlotte, Rudi Dharmalingam in an unspecified role, and Simon Pegg as Dr Jason Nash.
The trailer opens with online speculation as news about Alice Bell breaks, with Fran denying the accusations while her family becomes targeted. When she meets the other women who have also been framed as Alice, tensions escalate as they seek to uncover the truth about who the real murderer is.
Creator's Inspiration and Themes
Co-creator and lead writer David Baddiel previously explained that the idea for Hunting Alice Bell was originally inspired by real cases of women in the UK becoming terrorised by local populations after suspicions arose that they were various national hate figures secretly living in the community. Over time, it developed into a six-part drama focused on how destructive rumour-mongering, which can incite riots and mob rage, is now intensified by social media.
Baddiel noted that technology has created a new spin on mistaken identity, stating that while anyone can be who they want to be in the present culture, anyone can also have their identity taken away by the hive mind. This happens to the five women in the series, who lose control of their identities in a world where identity is very fluid.

Polly Scates, Head of Acquisitions at Channel 4, expressed excitement about collaborating with Clapperboard and Sphere Abacus on the gripping whodunnit, expressing confidence that the project will captivate viewers and keep them guessing.
