Ken Bruce's PopMaster TV is returning to Channel 4 for a second series, extended to 16 episodes, after its first run boosted ratings by 565 per cent on More4. The show will also feature two celebrity specials, hosted by Bruce.
Bruce expressed delight at the renewal, saying he was always confident the format could transfer to television. The first six-episode series elevated More4 to the number one slot at 8pm. The new episodes will debut on More4 and are expected to air later on Channel 4.
The show, originally a segment on Bruce's BBC Radio 2 show, follows five contestants through knockout rounds including 'Intros, Middles and Ends' and 'Video Gaga'. The winner must complete a 'three in 10' seconds speed round to win the gold disc.
Bruce, who left the BBC in 2023 for Greatest Hits Radio, took out a trademark on PopMaster after the BBC declined. Channel 4 worked with 12 Yard Productions to produce the TV version, with ITV Studios handling international distribution.
Filming for the new series will begin in spring in Glasgow. Bruce noted that contestants in the first series had strong knowledge of 1960s music, calling it a 'transformational decade'. He added that he is taking the show 'one step at a time' but is open to further series.
