A Game of Thrones star's new thriller is proving an 'addictive' watch for viewers. All episodes of an 'extraordinary' spy drama are finally streaming for UK-based audiences. Fans can now binge-watch historical drama Ponies in its entirety.
The eight instalments all landed on the same day. They can be accessed by those with a subscription to Sky Atlantic as part of their TV package or those who have an entertainment pass on the streaming platform NOW.
Setting and Plot
Set in Moscow, 1977, two women considered Ponies, or persons of no interest in intelligence speak, work anonymously as secretaries in the American Embassy. That is until their husbands are killed under mysterious circumstances in the USSR, and the pair become CIA operatives.
Bea is an over-educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants. Her cohort, Twila, is a small-town girl who is as abrasive as she is fearless. Together, they work to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that made them widows in the first place.
Cast and Inspiration
Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke and The White Lotus star Haley Lu Richardson lead the cast as the two 'Ponies'. They are joined by Adrian Lester, Rob Delaney and Harriet Walter to name just a few. While the series is not based on a true story, the writers behind it were inspired by historical events.
Critical and Fan Reception
Just days after its release, it is impressing critics and fans alike. It has managed to register an impressive 97% rating on website Rotten Tomatoes. Many critics praised the leading performances that apparently allow it to bend genres.
This is also backed up by many fans who have already watched the series, many of whom have admitted they could not help but watch the entire season in just one go.
