Pointless Contestant Haunted by Blunder 12 Years After Appearance

A former contestant on the BBC quiz show Pointless has confessed that they remain haunted by their performance more than a decade after appearing. The participant shared their embarrassing experience on Reddit, detailing how a poor gamble in the first round led to an early exit.

A Costly Gamble on Words Ending in LK

The contestant explained that during the head-to-head round, they faced opponents who were secondary school teachers. These teachers were familiar with pop music, correctly identifying Rita Ora, which left the contestant holding a grudge. The next day, the contestant was eliminated in the first round during a category on words ending in 'LK'. Their co-contestant earned a low score with 'caulk', but the contestant went seventh and chose 'backtalk', a word not in the Oxford English Dictionary, resulting in a full 100 points and elimination.

Surprise from Fellow Contestants

Despite their early exit, other contestants were surprised, as they perceived the pair as having an 'intellectual aura'. The contestant noted, 'They were mistaken. One slightly miserable hot chocolate in the Westfield Costa afterwards, and home we went.'

Alexander Armstrong's Off-Camera Demeanor

This is not the first time a contestant has shared behind-the-scenes details. Milly Fyfe, who appeared with her husband Andrew last year, revealed that host Alexander Armstrong was less engaging off-camera. Speaking to Express on behalf of OLBG, Milly said, 'With Alexander, because he's been doing it for so long and he's very busy with other things other than the show, there wasn't really any engagement with him off-camera. He was basically going over doing his emails, or he went into his dressing room. On camera, he was great. But equally, I thought he could have been a little bit more engaging with his contestants.' However, she praised guest DJ Trevor Nelson, describing him as 'amazing' and 'lovely'.
