Paul Whitehouse's heartbreaking tribute to Gone Fishing dog Ted

Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer have paid an emotional tribute to their late Gone Fishing co-star Ted, the beloved Patterdale Terrier mix who died in April. The comedians reflected on the dog's unique personality as they looked ahead to the show's season nine premiere.

A Heartfelt Reflection on Ted's Character

In a joint reflection, Paul Whitehouse shared: "The really great thing about Ted is, he didn't give a monkey's about us, did he, Bob? I think that's what we really loved about him." Bob Mortimer agreed, saying: "He was the perfect dog in that sense."

The 68-year-old added: "He was more of a cat in some ways. He just went off and did what he wanted." The Shooting Stars star continued: "He never caused us a problem, he'd give us a bit of lip."

Bob Mortimer on Ted's Legacy

Bob noted, "He was the perfect companion," to which Paul echoed: "He really was, he'd go off, and he'd rummage around and root around. I think people didn't mess with Ted. The animal kingdom did not mess with Ted."

Reflecting on the loss, Bob said: "It's very sad, but it is lovely that we've got an episode left, where people can reflect on his presence."

Fans Share Their Tributes

Fans took to the comments to share their own tributes. One viewer wrote: "They had Ted down to a T, didn't they. Love the pics of him running and rooting around. Dear dear Ted, he'll be part of the Gone Fishing team forever." Another shared: "Something decent for Sunday evening TV. Looking forward to it. Will miss Ted, though. His little playful interludes."

"Bless Ted, gone but not forgotten, a little treasure," penned a heartbroken fan, while a fourth wrote: "Still find this so sad. Looking forward to seeing how they give him a good send-off. The show won't be the same."

When Ted's death was announced in April, Lisa Clark, Executive Producer and Ted's owner, stated: "Ted was a much-loved family pet as well as a treasured companion to Paul and Bob on Gone Fishing. He took fame in his little stride and loved nothing better than messing around on the riverbanks, nicking jammy dodgers from Bob and bait from Paul. He will be sorely missed both at home and on screen. We'll never forget him. He is survived at home by Bo the Briard."

Bob added: "So very, very sad. Lovely Ted, the best companion and the greatest little chum. Going to miss him so much... and away boss." Paul also shared: "Bye-bye, Ted, old friend. He wasn't a dog; he was a species all of his own. He's gone to the great briefcase emporium in the sky. We will really miss you, mate."
