Netflix's 'Emily in Paris' to End After Six Seasons

Netflix has announced that one of its most popular shows, Emily in Paris, will end after its upcoming sixth season. The series creator, Darren Star, confirmed the news, revealing that the farewell season is currently being filmed in Greece and Monaco.

Creator and Star Share Emotional Goodbyes

In a statement to Variety, Darren Star expressed his gratitude for the journey. "As we embark on the final season, I am so grateful to Netflix, Paramount, and, most importantly, the fans who have taken this incredible journey with us. We can't wait to share this last chapter with you," he said. "Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives, inspiring your dreams of travel and your love of Paris. We will always have Emily in Paris!"

Lily Collins, who plays the titular character Emily Cooper, posted a video on Instagram promising a thorough farewell. "Our entire cast and crew are pouring our hearts into making this a fantastic farewell season, which we're now filming," she said. "I can't wait for all of the magic ahead, and to celebrate our final season with you in the most chic way yet."

Plot Developments and Cast

The series, which began in Paris in 2020, has evolved into a pan-European adventure. In recent seasons, Emily has lived between Paris and Rome, falling in love with men from both cities. The fifth season ended with Emily deciding whether to stay in Rome with her Italian beau Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) or return to Paris. The finale showed her on-again, off-again romantic interest Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) sending her a postcard inviting her to Greece, revealing he had left his Paris restaurant for a chef job on a yacht.

Key cast members returning for the final season include Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, Lucien Laviscount, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, and Andrew Fleming.

Massive Popularity Despite Mixed Reviews

Emily in Paris has remained a massive hit for Netflix, despite receiving mixed reviews from critics. The latest season amassed 26.8 million views globally in just 11 days and hit the top 10 list in 91 countries. The first season was watched by 58 million households in its first 28 days, according to Netflix.

While initially praised as a binge-worthy feel-good watch, later seasons have been criticised for repetitive plotlines and frustrating character decisions. In The Independent's two-star review of the latest season, Katie Rosseinsky noted the show's reliance on stereotypical tropes. "Emily's skill for attracting men who embody national stereotypes remains unmatched," she wrote, citing Marcello as a "tall, dark and handsome mamma's boy" drawn with all the nuance of a caricature.

Netflix's Recent Series Endings

Emily in Paris is the second Netflix series in recent weeks to announce its final season. Earlier, it was revealed that the upcoming fifth season of The Lincoln Lawyer would be the show's last. The final season of Emily in Paris is expected to air in late 2026.
