Netflix horror Marianne too terrifying for viewers to sleep

Netflix viewers say the French horror series Marianne is so terrifying they are struggling to sleep at night, with some calling it the scariest show on the streaming service. The eight-episode limited series has been championed by film enthusiast EccyReviews, who reviews films and television programmes on his social media channels, as "Netflix's most terrifying series of all time!"

What is the series about?

The show follows a writer who returns to her hometown only to discover the evil spirit that plagued her dreams is also lurking in real life. Featuring Victoire Du Bois, Lucie Boujenah and Tiphaine Daviot, the series has garnered two award nominations for its chilling narrative and outstanding performances.

EccyReviews explained: "The show that I am talking about is called Marianne. Now this is an eight-part limited series, which is genuinely terrifying as it follows this author who begins to write this book about this witch, then begins to realise that the witch she is writing about is actually real."

"After a disturbing encounter with someone from her past, she is forced to move back to her hometown and realises everything she has been writing about has actually come true. She begins to realise that this witch has been haunting her her entire life, and it is genuinely incredible."

What do viewers say?

Responding to the suggestion on TikTok, one viewer wrote: "Excellent series and super creepy!" A second commented: "Very scary. I can't sleep at night." A third viewer argued it surpassed even The Haunting of Hill House, a series widely celebrated for its compelling storyline and spine-chilling jump scares.

Yet another viewer said: "Never heard of Marianne but looks like that's my weekend sorted." One more user added: "The witch is so scary!"
