ITV has confirmed that its costume drama Mr Selfridge will return for a third series, with Jeremy Piven reprising the title role. The show, inspired by retail entrepreneur Harry Selfridge, is set to begin filming next month.
Producers have indicated that the third series will depict the “unravelling” of Selfridge’s colourful life. The second series, currently airing, has averaged 6.4 million viewers, though it trails BBC One’s Call The Midwife, which attracts over 10 million in the same Sunday evening slot.
ITV executive producer Kate Lewis stated: “We have some surprises in store for an audience in this third series. You only have to walk down Oxford Street today to know that Selfridges department store continued to be successful, but for its founder, Harry Selfridge, things were very different. His story was a rollercoaster ride that ended rather tragically. We pick up series three in 1919, the point at which his life really begins to unravel.”
Kate Brooke will return to write the 10 episodes. The cast also includes former Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly as socialite Lady Mae.
