Morpeth chase scene in Robson Green's BBC drama

The Northumberland town of Morpeth was the setting for a crime chase in the first episode of Robson Green's new BBC drama, The Northumbria Mysteries, which aired on BBC One on Friday, October 2.

The series, led by Grantchester star and Geordie actor Robson Green alongside former Life on Mars actress Liz White, was filmed at various locations across the North East earlier this year. Filming locations include Alnwick, Earsdon, Rothbury and Dunstanburgh Castle, with the castle serving as the backdrop for a scene featuring Coronation Street actor Chris Gascoyne, who returned to television as the villain in the opening episode.

Chase Scene in Morpeth

Morpeth was one of the first places where cameras were spotted rolling in the spring and was central to the action in the first episode. One memorable scene saw Green's character, Joe Ruby, a former criminal turned good, pursue a man believed to have key information about a murder at a local priory. When the man tries to escape, Joe notices a bike outside a shop, takes it, and gives chase down the high street and into an alley before confronting him.

Upcoming Episode

Episode two of The Northumbria Mysteries is scheduled to air on BBC One on Friday, October 30 at 2pm. The teaser reads: "When an exclusive, high-roller poker night ends with the murder of oil magnate and seemingly devoted family man Jeremy Hare, Rose and Raj find themselves completely out of their depth in the gambling world and have no choice but to recruit Joe, whose history makes him the ultimate insider."
