Met Gala 2025: Stars Embrace Budget Beauty Brands for Superfine Theme

Last night's Met Gala saw the revival of Black dandyism with a star-studded blue carpet, but while the clothing took the spotlight, innovations in makeup, hair, and skincare were equally notable. Guests took inspiration from the theme 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' with sculpted complexions, sweeping black eyeliner, and facial jewellery on stars like Lupita Nyong'o and Diana Ross.

Hats were central for many, including Zendaya, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Jennie Kim, but there was still plenty of immaculate hair design with masculine quiffs, slick-backs, and intricately laid edges. Beauty brands were out in full force: Colman Domingo used Charlotte Tilbury skincare, Simone Biles styled her hair with K18 products, and Sydney Sweeney achieved a perfect cheek flush with Armani beauty.

Rihanna's new baby bump drew crowds, but attention also focused on her low pony styled by Yusef Williams. She credited her own Fenty Beauty for her defined lips and cheekbones, using the Trace'd Out Lip Liner in Extra Thigh. Kim Kardashian wore crocodile leather tailoring with a dipped fedora, and her MUA Mario Dedivanovic used Makeup by Mario Soft Glow Highlight in Pearl and Honey, plus the SoftSculpt Transforming Skin Enhancer.

Zendaya, obscured by a hat, showcased a makeup masterclass with MUA Ernesto Casillas. Charlotte Tilbury products were used extensively, including Magic Serum Crystal Elixir, Magic Cream, Hollywood Flawless Filter, Airbrush Flawless Foundation, and the new Hollywood Contour Wand. Her signature pout came from the Lip Cheat Contour Duo and Big Lip Plumpgasm in Nudegasm Diamonds.

Doja Cat bucked trends with lilac eyeshadow up to her brow bone, thick liquid liner, and a bold red pout, using Pat McGrath Labs products including Permaprecision Liquid Eyeliner and the Mothership XII: Petalmorphosis Eyeshadow Palette. Her afro was styled to mimic an Edwardian hat with lighter-dyed sections for frills.
