Meghan Markle's Emmy Loss: What It Means for Her Netflix Future
Meghan Markle's Emmy Loss and Her Netflix Future

Meghan Markle's award-nominated show 'With Love, Meghan' lost a Daytime Emmy to a documentary series about dogs, intensifying scrutiny of her small-screen prospects after Netflix ended its backing.

Netflix Pulls Support

The Duchess of Sussex's Netflix series received mixed-to-abysmal reviews during its run, but the Christmas 2025 special proved to be the final straw for the streaming giant. Netflix pulled the plug on future deals, even withdrawing backing for her online food brand 'As Ever'.

The show's premise involved Meghan in 'her kitchen'—actually a nearby coastal property in Montecito, California—where B-list celebrity guests joined her to make party bags or snacks while having intimate conversations. Critics said it didn't fulfil that promise.

'Pretzel-Gate' Meme

One memorable moment, dubbed 'pretzel-gate', became a meme and mocking fodder for US late-night hosts like Jimmy Fallon. Meghan made her own peanut butter pretzel bags for a guest by opening a big bag of supermarket pretzels, putting some into a separate plastic bag secured with a string bow, and calling it her 'snack prep'. The bag had a handwritten label reading "peanut butter" because, as she said in the show, "you always want to be conscious if someone has a nut allergy."

The show premiered in spring 2025, with a second season filmed at the same time released in August, but both were panned. A one-off festive special, 'With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration', followed last Christmas.

What's Next for Meghan?

Meghan was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award the other weekend but did not win. Rumours last summer suggested she was auditioning for a role in another Netflix show, The Gentlemen, but nothing came of it.

Some speculate she could return to the UK and create a show about her, Harry, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet moving from California to the English countryside. Chris Riches suggests titles like 'Meghan's Farm' or 'With Mud, Meghan', drawing parallels to 'The Good Life' and Jeremy Clarkson's 'Clarkson's Farm'. However, he doubts it will happen, saying he doesn't see "entitled Meghan and Harry as a pair who like to get their hands dirty anymore."
