All four seasons of the crime drama Mayor of Kingstown, co-created by Yellowstone's Taylor Sheridan, are now available on Netflix, prompting fans to urge others to add the 'relentless' series to their watchlists.
The show originally debuted in 2021 as a Paramount+ exclusive. While it remains available there, its arrival on Netflix means a wider audience can now watch it. A fifth and final season is expected, with a release date not yet confirmed, anticipated either before the end of 2026 or in early 2027.
Plot and Cast
According to its synopsis, the series examines the American prison system, centering on the McLusky family in the fictional Michigan town of Kingstown, where incarceration is their business. The family acts as power brokers between police, criminals, inmates, prison guards, and politicians, while tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption, and inequality.
Jeremy Renner leads the cast as Mike McLusky, joined by Aidan Gillen and Kyle Chandler. Later seasons add Edie Falco and Lennie James to the cast. Sheridan co-created the show with singer and actor Hugh Dillon, who also stars.
Fan Reaction
While not among the highest-rated shows on Rotten Tomatoes, it has earned a dedicated fan base, with some labeling it "one of the most underrated crime dramas of recent years." One fan said: "It is brutal, relentlessly dark, and built around a city where prisons, gangs, police, politics, and families all feed the same cycle of violence."
Multiple viewers singled out Renner for praise. One person claimed: "Jeremy Renner is outstanding, giving Mike McLusky a mix of toughness, exhaustion, intelligence, and vulnerability that anchors the whole series." Author Stephen King tweeted in 2024: "I have no f***ing clue what's going on in Mayor of Kingstown, but I love this show."
Mayor of Kingstown is streaming on Netflix and Paramount+.
