Maya Jama has donated the Celebrity Traitors prize money she would have won to her chosen charity, Action for Children, after being banished before the final.
The Love Island presenter, 32, was eliminated at the roundtable when YouTuber King Kenny, 29, voted against her, and she missed out on reaching the fire pit. Comedian Romesh Ranganathan and Heartstopper actor Sebastian Croft went on to win the series, splitting the £83,000 prize pot between their chosen charities.
Donation to Action for Children
Writing on X, Jama said: “Just donated what I would have won for my chosen charity [Action For Children] amazing cause.” Action for Children is a UK charity that supports vulnerable children, young people and families, often dealing with poverty, abuse, neglect or violence.
Fans praised the gesture, with one commenting: “Even in defeat… still the star of the show.” Another wrote: “queen…..donating the money that shouldve been yours after carrying the whole season.”
Winners' charity choices
Ranganathan donated his half of the winnings to the Refugee Council, having become a patron of the charity earlier this year. He said: “Whatever your politics, I think we should be able to agree that people who have been forced from their homes deserve to be treated with humanity and dignity. The Refugee Council does incredibly important work, and I’m very proud to support it.”
Croft donated his winnings to Choose Love, formerly Help Refugees, a humanitarian charity supporting displaced communities around the world by working with grassroots and community-led organisations.
In an interview with the BBC, Croft explained his choice: “I used to volunteer with them when I was 15 and 16, when they were first starting out. I’m now an ambassador for them. I have an organisation called Queer Is Always Here, which operates underneath Choose Love and raises money for them. And with them and Queer Is Always Here, we’ve raised just under £300,000 so far for queer refugees and displaced people.”
Celebrity Traitors series 2 is available to stream in full on BBC iPlayer.
