MasterChef judge John Torode and his wife, actress and cook Lisa Faulkner, have been spending lockdown cooking together, creating over 100 recipes for their ITV show and Instagram. The couple, who met on Celebrity MasterChef in 2010 and married in October 2019, say cooking has been their saviour during the pandemic.
John and Lisa's Weekend Kitchen, a new summertime series, was filmed during lockdown with social distancing. Lisa said: 'After weeks at home we suddenly had to use our brains and get into proper work, it was exhausting!' Despite the pressure, they are proud of their output.
The couple have found cooking to be therapeutic. John said: 'Cooking is like therapy. You don't have to think about that maths equation you couldn't get your head around with the homeschooling. You've got to be 100% focused on it and nothing else.' They also enjoy quiet meals without cameras, such as lamb kofta with flatbreads.
John admitted to setting fire to a tea towel while filming for This Morning, and the couple's only arguments in the kitchen occur when Lisa buys packet rice. Lisa said: 'I'm really lucky to live with a chef. He literally makes the best steak on Earth.'
