Marshals Season 2 Filming Begins: Release and Episode Count

Marshals, the smash-hit Yellowstone prequel on CBS and Paramount+, has officially begun production on its second season. The series, which debuted in March 2026, was quickly renewed after drawing over 20 million viewers per episode, making it CBS's biggest new scripted series of the year.

Season 2 Production Underway

CBS announced on June 8 that the cast has resumed filming for season two. The network's Instagram account for the show shared behind-the-scenes photos of stars Grimes, Santos, and Tatanka Means, with the caption: "Marshals is back to work on Season 2- production has officially begun on all-new episodes." The premiere episode is titled "All Hat No Cattle."

What Happened in Season 1?

The first season ended with several cliffhangers. Fans are left wondering if Kayce's son Tate (Brecken Merrill) is safe during his fishing trip with rival rancher Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey), whether Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) and Belle (Arielle Kebbel) survive an ambush, and if Cruz (Ash Santos) has left Montana for good.

Release Date for Season 2

CBS has renewed Marshals for its 2026-2027 season, with a fall premiere expected. Deadline reports the show will return "in the fall," likely in October, maintaining its Sunday night slot at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. UK viewers can stream episodes the following Monday on Paramount+.

Episode Count

Season 1 had 13 episodes, but season 2 will be longer. At SXSW, star Grimes revealed the second season could have 18 or 20 episodes, saying, "They like it." This full-season order means up to seven additional episodes compared to the debut run.

Stay tuned for more updates as production continues. Marshals is available to stream on Paramount+.
