Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, who takes over the role of Dewey in the 'Malcolm in the Middle' revival, has spoken about his desire to honour the original series and its fans. The four-episode revival, titled 'Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair', is now streaming on Hulu.
Ellsworth-Clark told People magazine that he grew up watching the show and knew Dewey was a fan favourite. 'I guess I didn’t want to f*ck that up,' he said, acknowledging that some viewers might be disappointed that original actor Erik Per Sullivan did not return.
The revival brings back Frankie Muniz as Malcolm, Bryan Cranston as Hal, Jane Kaczmarek as Lois, Christopher Masterson as Francis, and Justin Berfield as Reese. New cast members include Anthony Timpano, Vaughan Murrae, and Keeley Karsten. Ellsworth-Clark praised his co-stars for being 'warm and welcoming'.
Bryan Cranston previously revealed that Sullivan was offered 'buckets of money' to reprise his role but declined, as he is now studying Dickens and said 'No thank you.' In the revival, Malcolm is a father trying to protect his daughter Leah from his family's chaos during his parents' anniversary party.
