The BBC has officially announced that Line of Duty will return for a seventh season, with Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar reprising their roles. Filming is set to begin in Belfast in spring 2025, with further casting details to be announced.
The new series will see AC-12 disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards. The team will investigate Detective Inspector Dominic Gough, a charismatic officer accused of being a sexual predator, while questions arise about a potential larger threat.
Creator Jed Mercurio expressed gratitude to fans, stating: “We’re privileged to have had so many of you follow the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn’t be more delighted to be returning for a seventh.” He added, “Corruption in this country is supposed to have come to an end while Line of Duty was off air so I’ve been forced to use my imagination.”
Compston called the show “a job of a lifetime,” while McClure said she was “so excited” and Dunbar looked forward to “those mercurial twists and turns.” Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, praised the series and noted that after four years, the show will soon be back filming.
