A recent leak suggests LEGO and Nintendo are collaborating on a new set based on the classic 1981 Donkey Kong arcade cabinet. The image, posted on Reddit's r/Legoleak and sourced from Gupytex, shows a detailed replica of the original cabinet, complete with the Donkey Kong logo across the top and a window displaying the iconic level layout with girders, ladders, barrels, and hammers. At the top, Donkey Kong guards Princess Peach, while at the bottom, joysticks and buttons hint at potential interactivity, similar to previous LEGO Nintendo sets like Mario Kart and Super Mario Bros.
Set Details and Pricing
According to the leak, the set comprises 1,367 pieces and will retail for $200. In the UK, this is expected to translate to approximately £175 to £180, though LEGO has not officially confirmed the pricing. The release date is rumored to be August 1, 2026.
Fan Reactions
Retro gaming enthusiasts have expressed excitement, with one Reddit user calling it a "first day purchase." Another praised the use of fence pieces and the retention of the "janky cabinet art." However, some fans noted that the design does not perfectly match the original cabinet's shape. One commenter wished it were shaped like the Pac-Man set for shelf consistency, while others pointed out that real arcade cabinets vary in shape and size.
This set marks another chapter in the LEGO and Nintendo partnership, which has already produced sets based on Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Animal Crossing. The Donkey Kong arcade cabinet is particularly significant as it features the first appearance of Mario, originally known as Jumpman.
