Lazy Town Star Unrecognisable 20 Years After Pink Wig

Shelby Young, the actress who originally played Stephanie in the beloved children's show Lazy Town, has shared a striking transformation 20 years after her stint on the programme. The 34-year-old actress posted a TikTok slideshow contrasting her childhood character, complete with the iconic pink wig and striped dress, with her current appearance as a brunette.

A Nostalgic Look Back at Lazy Town

Lazy Town was a vibrant and energetic show that aired on Nick Jr. from 2004 to 2014. It followed eight-year-old Stephanie and the athletic hero Sportacus as they encouraged the residents of Lazy Town to lead healthier, more active lives. The show also featured the villainous Robbie Rotten and became a cultural touchstone for a generation of children.

Shelby Young was originally cast as Stephanie for the pilot episode and promotional material. She flew to Iceland for filming, underwent extensive rehearsals, and recorded the character's signature song 'Bing Bang'. However, due to her membership in the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), she was unable to continue with the non-union production. The role was later taken over by Julianna Mauriello and Chloe Lang for the series.

Life After Lazy Town

Despite not appearing in the final series, Young has fond memories of her time on the show. She described the experience as 'great' and praised the actresses who succeeded her as 'amazing'. Young has continued her acting career, appearing in productions such as American Horror Story, The Social Network, and Days of Our Lives. However, she notes that fans still most frequently ask her about her connection to Lazy Town.

In a previous YouTube video, Young shared behind-the-scenes moments, including screen tests and promotional shoots, which garnered over 29 million views. Her performance of the 'Bing Bang' song also remains popular online, with over 350,000 views.

Today, Young has left the pink wig behind, but she still embraces her love for the colour pink through her fashion choices. Her transformation serves as a reminder of the lasting impact of the show and her small but memorable part in it.
