Kristen Wiig 'really nervous' about twin role in Palm Royale season 2

Kristen Wiig has admitted she was 'really nervous' about taking on the challenge of playing twin sisters in the second season of Apple TV+ comedy Palm Royale. The Bridesmaids star portrays Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons, an ambitious social climber in 1969 Florida, and her newly discovered twin sister, Mirabelle.

The sixth episode, released on 12th November, reveals that Maxine has a twin sister with a serious alcohol problem, who quickly disrupts Maxine's already fragile life following her breakdown at the end of the first season. The show also features Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Laura Dern, Leslie Bibb and Josh Lucas.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the plot twist, Wiig explained that showrunner Abe Sylvia looked to classic television for ideas. "The idea kind of came from looking back at those older shows and the themes and the things that they did," she said. "Like Bewitched, which we actually see a little clip of in the show, of having a twin."

Wiig admitted that acting opposite herself was a new and somewhat strange experience. "I've never done that before, so it was a little weird to do scenes with myself," she confessed. "Obviously, I did it with another person, someone with my wig on. But it was really fun!"

The actress revealed her main concern was making the two characters distinct yet believable. "I was really nervous about it because I didn't know how to make her different but the same," Wiig said. "But we just really leaned into the absurdity of it and I think that helped." Palm Royale continues Wednesdays on Apple TV+.
