The only Kardashian/Jenner I'm vaguely interested in isn't Kim and her shapely derrière or Khloé and her various snack-food endeavours. It isn't Kylie and her make-up brand and questionable taste in men or Kris and her very expensive facelifts. No, I have a big soft spot for Kendall's taste in clothes and accessories.

When she recently took Vogue inside her wardrobe, I discovered that she is very much a woman after my own heart. From her neatly arranged shelves of small handbags – which she refers to as her 'baby bags', mostly by The Row – and two divine vintage Hermès Kellys in black and deep red, to her colour-coded clothes hanging on slim velvet hangers.

When I recently had to psych myself up for the seasonal switch from autumn/winter to spring/summer, I felt inspired by her wardrobe's curated calm and tried to create a similar space – one that isn't overstuffed and everything has its place, making getting dressed feel instinctive rather than overwhelming. There's something very appealing about being able to swoop in and pick out a look in an instant.

The one thing I could never do, however, is share my wardrobe with anyone – certainly not my husband or son. That would lead to extreme disharmony in our household. As such it remains my sanctuary, a quiet corner of order away from the rest of the world. The only other female who goes in there is my cat Audrey – named after Ms Hepburn – who seems to appreciate my style choices.

When it comes to accessories, I share many of the same instincts as Kendall. My favourite designer bags also include The Row – understated and beautifully made, their minimalist design makes them endlessly interchangeable with everyday outfits, and the leather is exceptionally soft, too. The Row's small 90s bags are excellent. Not everyone gets their simplicity and appeal, but I love them. For summer, I've already added the brand's small black Barn bag to my wish list. Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent and Khaite are my other go-to bag designers and if I had a bigger budget, you'd find me in their stores 'oohing' over their new drops.

When it comes to shoes, I make a concerted effort to find pairs that are both comfortable and stylish – a balance that's harder to strike than it should be. I'm firmly in my ballet flat era – very much the shoe of the season – and my favourite mid-range options for these are Aeyde and Le Monde Beryl, or Massimo Dutti on the high street.

And, of course, what woman doesn't love a pair of Chanel flats? These, my friends, are works of art.

Style Crush

Dakota Johnson, 36, has a knack for making the simplest pieces feel considered. In Rome, she wore this Hai slip dress with a knit over her shoulders and ballet flats. Perfection.
