Acclaimed actress Kate Hudson has publicly expressed her ambition to co-star in a movie with her mother, the legendary Oscar-winner Goldie Hawn. The revelation came during a new interview, where Hudson confirmed that while the desire is strong, the perfect project has yet to materialise for the mother-daughter duo.
The Search for the Perfect Script
Hudson, who is 46, stated that she would "love to" work with her mother, but emphasised that it "has to be the right project." She elaborated, revealing that several attempts have been made. "Nothing so far has felt right," Hudson told Variety. "People have tried, but the material hasn't fit."
Instead of settling, Hudson has a specific vision for their potential collaboration. She expressed a desire for a film in the spirit of the 1990 comedy-drama Postcards From the Edge, which starred Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine. Hudson suggested that finding such a role might require them to take matters into their own hands, noting, "We'd probably have to create it ourselves."
A Family of Hollywood Stars
The potential pairing would unite two generations of Hollywood talent. Goldie Hawn, who just celebrated her 80th birthday on November 21, is an Oscar-winning actress known for films like Private Benjamin. Her daughter, Kate, earned her own Academy Award nomination for Almost Famous in 2001.
Hawn is mother to three children: Kate and her brother Oliver Hudson, 49, from her marriage to Bill Hudson, and actor Wyatt Russell, 39, from her long-term relationship with Kurt Russell. Despite their individual successes and shared family life, Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn have never starred in a film together.
Hudson's Current Cinematic Success
The discussion about future projects comes as Hudson stars in the new movie musical Song Sung Blue opposite Hugh Jackman. In the film, the pair play struggling performers who form a Neil Diamond tribute band. Hudson shared that her primary concern was ensuring the on-screen romance was believable.
"I knew the movie wouldn't work if people didn't believe the love story," she confessed. To achieve this, she recalled telling Jackman, "I'm super tactile. We need to really get to know each other and find this intimacy."
Her performance is being hailed by some critics as a significant comeback. The experience of watching the film for the first time with her mother and Kurt Russell was particularly moving. Hudson noted, "It was emotional for them. Maybe because they've seen how long I've waited for a role like this — one that lets me really do what I love." Song Sung Blue is scheduled for a theatrical release this Christmas.
