Strictly Come Dancing star Karen Hauer has revealed the real reasons behind her divorce from fellow professional Kevin Clifton, describing the breakdown of their marriage as a 'nasty' and 'blindsiding' experience.
The Venezuelan dancer, 41, admitted the relationship turned sour overnight as jealousy and insecurity took hold. Speaking on The Divorce Club podcast, she said: 'It got really nasty overnight. I was getting jealous because I wasn't getting the attention I wanted from my husband.'
Karen and Kevin, who married in 2015 after meeting on the dance show Burn The Floor, separated in 2018. She confessed she was 'not ready' for marriage and that the couple struggled with 'too much anger and emotional baggage' during counselling.
Kevin later began a relationship with documentary maker Stacey Dooley, which Karen said left her 'struggling to get out of bed'. She credited her rescue dog Betty with helping her through the 'most challenging time of her life'.
The couple continued working together on Strictly after their split, which Karen said made moving on harder. She admitted: 'It took me a year after we separated to actually let go of him.'
