John Lewis has released its 2026 Christmas advert, its 20th festive campaign, featuring Kristin Scott Thomas as a grandmother determined to connect with her grandchildren. The film, titled 'Don't give up on giving', also stars Paul Whitehouse as the voice of Pickles, a vintage Little Snoopy Pull-Along Toy.
Story of Grandma Gloria and Pickles
Scott Thomas, 66, plays Gloria, who struggles to engage her grandchildren Freddie and Maggie when they visit. After retrieving Pickles from her attic, she heads into town on a TukTuk, where she experiences the magic of Christmas before arriving at John Lewis.
On Christmas Day, the children discover a decorated den called the 'Gran Cave', created by Gloria, complete with disco balls and sparkling lights. The family dances together, emphasising that Christmas is about creating memories rather than just giving gifts.
Cast and Music Details
The advert features a cover of The Rolling Stones' 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' by Sam Fender, who is tipped as a Glastonbury 2027 headliner. Fender's version includes a children's choir from his old school, John Spence Community High School, and a brass section from the Easington Colliery Band.
Scott Thomas, described as a 'muse' for the campaign, said she 'couldn't resist the opportunity' to take part. The single, backed with Fender's 2020 cover of 'Winter Song', will be available on seven-inch vinyl and CD, with profits from John Lewis sales donated to Action for Children.
