ITV's gripping new series Believe Me has recently landed on screens, with the four-part drama recounting the harrowing case of taxi driver rapist John Worboys, portrayed by Daniel Mays. The ITV show also features Peaky Blinders star Aimee-Ffion Edwards, HBO's Industry actress Miriam Petche, and Raised by Wolves' Aasiya Shah. Rounding out the cast are Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again's Alexa Davies, Bad Education's Kae Alexander, Amandaland's Philippa Dunne, and Laurie Kynaston from Fool Me Once.
Chilling True Story
The chilling drama depicts how Worboys would lure women into his taxi following a night out, spinning tales to his unsuspecting passengers about winning the lottery or striking it lucky at a casino. He would then offer his victims glasses of champagne laced with drugs, encouraging them to drink in 'celebration', leaving them unconscious.
Rather than focusing on Worboys himself, Believe Me is told entirely through the eyes of his victims. The true crime drama shines a light on their ordeals with the police and the devastating feeling of not being believed by the authorities when they came forward. The opening episode centred on a woman named Sarah, whose real identity has been kept hidden by the ITV production.
Episode Synopsis
An episode synopsis for the opening instalment of Believe Me states: 'Sarah Adams is given a drugged drink by a taxi driver and is certain she was raped. After months of Sarah feeling disbelieved by the police, her case is dropped, and the man is free to attack again. Fact-based crime drama about the fight for justice by the victims of serial sex offender John Worboys.'
Episode Schedule
The series made its debut on Sunday, May 10, with the second episode following the next evening on Monday, May 11. The third instalment airs tonight (Sunday, May 17) on ITV at 9pm. The concluding episode will broadcast on ITV on Monday, May 18, at 9pm. Believe Me is also available to stream on ITVX as a complete box set, ideal for those who'd rather watch the whole series in one sitting rather than tuning in week by week.
