ITV Adultery cast: Cooper and Garai lead new drama

Dominic Cooper and Romola Garai lead the cast of ITV's new six-part psychological drama Adultery, which begins on Sunday, October 25. The series follows Beth (Romola Garai) and Tom (Dominic Cooper), who are both married to other people but quickly become infatuated with one another after meeting.

The affair must be kept secret not only from their partners, but also from their teenagers, who are in a relationship with each other. An overview for the series reads: "Adultery introduces us to Tom's 15-year-old daughter Jess, who has found love with schoolmate Ollie, and they can't take their hands off one another, as love's young dream becomes all-consuming."

"When Tom meets Ollie's Mum Beth in the most unexpected of circumstances, the two families' lives are potentially turned upside down forever. Will Tom and Beth be able to control their desires, unlike their lovestruck teenagers?"

Romola Garai as Beth Brookes

Romola Garai portrays Beth Brookes, the central female character grappling with her undeniable attraction to Tom. Beyond her part in the forthcoming drama, Romola has featured in productions including Atonement, One Day and Betrayal. She is perhaps best recognised for portraying Squadron Leader Eliza Russell in Vigil's second series.

Discussing Beth's character, she said: "She's done too much for other people, so she rebels. She's an unhappy woman made selfish through grief. Bad things happen, but I have an equal amount of compassion for both sides of their predicament."

Dominic Cooper as Tom Kirkman

Dominic Cooper portrays Tom Kirkman, the principal male character who experiences an immediate, powerful connection with Beth Brookes. Dominic rose to prominence playing Sky, Sophie's (Amanda Seyfried) fiancé, in the blockbuster musical Mamma Mia!, which hit cinemas in 2008. He has also appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger, Preacher and My Lady Jane.

Discussing his character in the ITV drama with the Radio Times, Dominic said: "I've always wanted a family, and to play this man who blows it all up... I was disappointed in him."

Supporting cast and teenagers

Matthew McNulty takes on the role of Beth's husband, Neil. Matthew has also appeared in After the Flood and Domina, and starred as Seth in the British sci-fi comedy-drama series Misfits. Audiences may remember him for his portrayal of Steve in Deadwater Fell.

Shelley Conn assumes the role of Tom's wife, Hannah. Bridgerton fans will recall Shelley portraying Lady Mary Sharma in the Netflix period drama's second series. She is also recognised for her performances in Gen V and Good Omens.

Johnny Sanpher and Leila Khan portray besotted teenagers Jess and Ollie, the offspring of Tom and Hannah and Neil and Beth. While Adultery represents Johnny's television debut, Leila has appeared in Crookhaven, Death in Paradise and Heartstopper.

Other cast members include Andrew Knott as Dave, the ex-husband of Beth's recently deceased best friend, and James Murray as Tom's brother, Paul Kirkman. Emmerdale star Charley Webb features as Leah Kirkman, Tom's sister-in-law.

Adultery airs Sunday, October 25 on ITV at 9pm.
