HBO has renewed 'House of the Dragon' for a fourth season, with a release date set for 2028. The announcement was made by Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max, during the network's presentation in New York City. The renewal comes ahead of the Season 3 premiere this summer.
Showrunner Ryan Condal had previously indicated that the series would conclude after four seasons, but that has not been confirmed. Sources suggest Condal is still writing the fourth season, and the end date could change. A final decision will be made after Season 4 is completed.
Based on George R.R. Martin's 'Fire & Blood,' the series is set 200 years before 'Game of Thrones' and follows House Targaryen. Season 2, which aired in August 2024, depicted the escalating conflict leading to the 'Dance of the Dragons' civil war.
During the presentation, Bloys also announced an early Season 2 renewal for 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,' ahead of its debut on January 18. The cast for Season 3 includes Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, and others.
