BBC Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones found himself at the centre of an embarrassing moment during Tuesday's broadcast, after a classic autocue error left his co-stars teasing him mercilessly.
The Moment It All Went Wrong
The awkward incident occurred on November 18 during the regular handover between BBC Breakfast and Morning Live. Hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent, presenting from the famous red sofa, smoothly transitioned to their colleagues by saying: "Now Morning Live follows Breakfast on BBC One this morning. Let's find out what they have for us this morning, it's Gethin and Kim. Morning."
The cameras then cut to the Morning Live studio, where Gethin Jones was seated opposite co-host Kym Marsh. The pair were discussing an intriguing segment about a children's book that sold for an astonishing £350,000 due to a tiny typo. As Kym explained the remarkable story, an image of the valuable book appeared on screen for viewers.
Quick Recovery Amid Studio Laughter
The trouble began when Gethin mistakenly told viewers: "We will see you at 10:30." Realising his error immediately, he threw his hands up in the air and exclaimed: "It's a typo, a typo. It's 9:30."
The studio quickly filled with laughter as the blunder unfolded. From the BBC Breakfast sofa, Sally Nugent couldn't resist teasing: "You weren't just reading the words, were you? Come on." Gethin responded with perfect comic timing, quipping: "What do you mean words? This show isn't scripted."
Jon Kay joined in the fun, joking that he and Sally had initially panicked at the thought of presenting for an extra hour. "We thought 'oh no we have to do another hour'," he laughed. "We will see you at 9:30, don't be late Kym and Geth."
Meanwhile on BBC Breakfast
While the Morning Live team recovered from their humorous moment, the main BBC Breakfast programme continued with an emotional interview. Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas appeared on the red sofa to discuss her mother's "debilitating" illness.
The professional dancer revealed she has been caring for her 88-year-old mother, Audrey Rich, who was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in 2022. In a moving moment, Shirley confessed: "This isn't something you can see so with my mum I've witnessed her choking, I've been out with her when she is out of breath and of course she lives with me."
She continued emotionally: "It's quite sad, it's debilitating and of course it's never going to get any better so it's about finding a way to help her care for that and of course keeping her safe from any of the flus going around."
BBC Morning Live airs weekdays from 9:30am on BBC One and iPlayer.
