Film4 Airs The Drop With Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini

Film4 is set to broadcast the crime thriller The Drop, featuring the late James Gandolfini in his final big screen role. The film, which also stars Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace, is directed by Oscar-nominated Belgian filmmaker Michael R Roskam.

Hardy plays Bob Saginowski, an ex-con trying to live a quiet life as a bartender in Brooklyn. When his bar is robbed, his life and those of his cousin Marv (Gandolfini) and partner Nadia (Rapace) are thrown into chaos.

The supporting cast includes Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts, known for Rust and Bone, and James Frecheville from Animal Kingdom.

The screenplay is based on Dennis Lehane's short story Animal Rescue. Lehane, whose works inspired Gone Baby Gone, Shutter Island, and Mystic River, also wrote the script and plans to expand the story into a full-length novel.
