Boy George's appearance at the Eurovision 2026 first semi-final on Tuesday evening (May 12) has sparked mixed reactions from viewers. The 1980s pop icon, known for fronting Culture Club, joined San Marino's representative Senhit for a performance of the track 'Superstar'. He made his entrance midway through the song, emerging on a silver throne dressed in a black suit.
Despite the spectacle, the duo finished in the bottom five and failed to secure enough votes to progress to the Grand Final. Viewers took to social media to share their thoughts, with some criticising Boy George's vocal performance and the relevance of his guest spot. One viewer commented: 'I quite like this but the addition of Boy George is pointless and he sounds bad.' Another said: 'He did absolutely f*** all. Most pointless guest spot ever.'
However, not all feedback was negative. Many fans expressed disappointment that San Marino did not advance, praising the song and Boy George's involvement. One fan wrote: 'Sad that San Marino didn't get through I really liked the song & loved Boy George.' Another added: 'Saddened Boy George out, thought it was a great song.'
In a pre-show interview with Wiwibloggs, Boy George praised the organisation of the event, stating: 'It is very different to how it is on TV. It is such a well run ship. Literally, from the minute you arrive I'm like 'I need to have this in my life, I need to have this at my gigs. This level of organisation, it's kind of insane!'
The Eurovision Song Contest grand finale will air on Saturday, May 16 at 8pm BST on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
