Euphoria Star Chloe Cherry on 'Disgusting' Drug Smuggling Scene That Made Crew Clap

Actress Chloe Cherry has revealed that the entire crew applauded after filming a particularly stomach-churning drug-smuggling scene for the third season of HBO's 'Euphoria'. The scene, which aired in the season premiere on 13 April, shows Cherry's character Faye and Zendaya's Rue swallowing small plastic-wrapped bags of fentanyl to smuggle them across the US border from Mexico.

Cherry told Decider that creator Sam Levinson was insistent on depicting the 'disgusting' reality of the act. 'He was like, 'I really, really, really need to see in the scene that it is absolutely disgusting to swallow these fentanyl balloons. Like, I need it to be just awful',' she recalled. The actress described the shoot as 'really fun' but 'very gross', adding that she imagined how she would feel if she were actually in that situation.

Speaking to Metro, Cherry said: 'When we stopped shooting, everybody clapped. I'm not even kidding, the whole crew clapped for me. They were so amazed at how disgusting I made that scene.' The scene has sparked strong reactions online, with some viewers comparing the show to 'Breaking Bad' or 'Narcos', and others expressing disgust at the graphic depiction of drug use.

However, some fans defended the scene, arguing that its grotesque nature was intentional. One viewer wrote: 'The dog licking scene in Euphoria is not ridiculous, pointless shock value. It deliberately uses extreme, grotesque and repulsive imagery to portray the absolute humiliating degradation and total loss of dignity that defines severe drug addiction.'
