Euphoria Season 3 Trailer Elicits Emotional Fan Response Following Eric Dane's Death
The official trailer for the highly anticipated third season of HBO Max's teen drama Euphoria has been released, stirring a wave of mixed emotions among fans. This comes after a four-year hiatus since the season two finale aired in 2022, with viewers eagerly awaiting the return of Zendaya and the ensemble cast.
Eric Dane's Posthumous Appearance in Final TV Role
The trailer features a poignant posthumous appearance by actor Eric Dane, who portrayed Cal Jacobs in the series. Dane tragically passed away in February 2026 at the age of 53 after being diagnosed with motor neuron disease, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. By October 2025, he was using a wheelchair due to the condition.
Season three of Euphoria was filmed in February 2025, just months before Dane publicly announced his health battle. He had been a core part of the show since its inception, and his death has deeply impacted long-running fans.
Fans Share Heartfelt Tributes and Mixed Reactions
Following the trailer's release on YouTube, fans flooded the comments section with tributes to Dane and expressions of grief. One fan wrote, "Rest in peace to Eric Dane!" while another shared his name accompanied by crying emojis. A third commented, "Bye bye Brother Eric. We miss you cuz," and a fourth simply said, "Eric?" with heartbroken emojis.
However, reactions to the trailer's content were divided. Some fans criticized the direction, claiming it was turning into "Breaking Bad" due to scenes depicting drug-smuggling, strip clubs, and gangsters, suggesting the series had lost its original touch. Others expressed excitement, with one stating, "This looks messy af... can't wait lol."
Cast and Creator Pay Tribute to Eric Dane
The Euphoria cast and creator Sam Levinson offered heartfelt tributes to Dane. Levinson shared in a statement, "I’m heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend Eric. Working with him was an honour. Being his friend was a gift. Eric’s family is in our prayers. May his memory be for a blessing."
The trailer also highlights Zendaya's character Rue Bennett being questioned by police after a chaotic time in Mexico, with HBO Max teasing, "Have we finally gone too far?"
