Escape to the Country buyer moved to tears by 'unbelievable' Welsh mansion
Escape to the Country buyer in tears over Welsh mansion

An Essex couple searching for a new home in Wales were reduced to tears during the latest episode of BBC's Escape to the Country after stepping inside a six-bedroom property they described as "unbelievable".

Host Alistair Appleton welcomed Leela and Peter to the Gower Peninsula at the start of Tuesday's (October 27) episode. The grandparents were looking for a detached home with a budget of £500,000, hoping to find somewhere with enough outdoor space to accommodate their grandchildren during school holidays.

A Property That Left Buyers Speechless

While the couple were impressed by several homes in and around the Gower, it was the mystery house in Pwll, Carmarthenshire, that had the biggest impact. As soon as they entered the open-plan kitchen and living area, Leela became visibly emotional and was seen wiping away tears.

Alistair noticed her reaction and remarked: "She's overwhelmed. She can't bare the sight of all this beauty." He then handed the tearful house-hunter a glass of water.

When she recovered her composure, Leela said: "It's unbelievable. It just got better and better and better. I'm just blown away, honestly. Magnificent, magnificent. To die for."

Beyond Words and Out of This World

She added: "It's beyond words. It's out of this world, I'd say. Out of this world." Leela later told the camera crew that the property was "everything I could possibly dream of".

"I walked into it and I thought this must be owned by someone who's a superstar. It was just beyond belief, it was everything I could possibly dream of. I can see ourselves living here, yes. But it's the price," she shared.

Budget Concerns Win the Day

The four-storey home featured a shower room, modern kitchen, laundry room and an in-house cinema. However, it was listed at £550,000, which pushed it beyond the couple's original £500,000 budget.

Despite being completely taken with the house, Leela and Peter could not overlook the substantial cost and had reservations about managing such a large property between just the two of them. In the end, they decided to rent temporarily while weighing up whether to settle in the Gower or explore neighbouring areas.
