Escape to the Country buyer breaks down in tears over Welsh home
Escape to the Country buyer in tears over Welsh home

An Essex couple were left in tears as they toured an "unbelievable" Welsh property during an episode of Escape to the Country. Leela and Peter, a long-term couple introduced at the start of the Tuesday afternoon (October 27) episode, were searching for a detached home in the Gower Peninsula with a budget of £500,000.

The grandparents wanted a property that could house their grandchildren during school holidays, with plenty of roaming room nearby. While they admired several houses in and around the Gower, it was a six-bedroom mystery home in Pwll, Carmarthenshire, that overwhelmed Leela.

Emotional reaction to the Pwll property

As soon as the couple stepped into the home's open-plan kitchen and living space, Leela became visibly moved and was seen wiping away tears. BBC presenter Alistair Appleton noticed her reaction and said: "She's overwhelmed. She can't bare the sight of all this beauty." He then offered the teary-eyed buyer a glass of water.

When she could speak, Leela said: "It's unbelievable. It just got better and better and better. I'm just blown away, honestly. Magnificent, magnificent. To die for." She added: "It's beyond words. It's out of this world, I'd say. Out of this world." Later, she told the camera crew the home was "everything I could possibly dream of".

Budget concerns and final decision

The four-story home featured a shower room, modern kitchen, laundry room, and an in-house cinema. However, it was priced at £550,000, slightly over their initial £500,000 budget. Leela and Peter could not overlook the hefty price tag and had concerns about maintaining such a large property between just the two of them.

They ultimately decided to rent for a while before choosing between settling in the Gower or somewhere nearby. Escape to the Country can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.
