Original Baywatch Star Erika Eleniak Returns for Fox Television Reboot

Erika Eleniak, a standout cast member from the original Baywatch series, has been photographed for the first time on the set of the upcoming television reboot produced by Fox and Fremantle. The actress, now 56, is returning in a guest role as her iconic character Shauni McClain, according to industry publication Deadline.

On-Set Appearance and Character Details

Eleniak was seen on the beach in Marina Del Rey, Southern California, wearing a beige blouse layered over a green tank top with matching slacks. Notably, all of her numerous arm and neck tattoos acquired in recent years were concealed with beige makeup for the production. The actress originally portrayed Shauni McClain for three seasons from 1989 to 1992, becoming one of the most recognizable faces from the lifeguard drama.

In the new series, Shauni McClain has evolved into a city councilwoman in seaside Santa Monica. Her storyline involves assisting Hobie Buchannon with organizing the first-annual Beach Games, where Baywatch lifeguards will compete against Coast Guard members in various challenges.

Cast Changes and Character Developments

The reboot features an ensemble cast including Brooks Nader, Shay Mitchell, Livvy Dunne, and original Baywatch member David Chokachi. A significant recasting has occurred with the character Hobie Buchannon, previously played by Brandon Call and Jeremy Jackson in the original series. Arrow star Stephen Amell now portrays Hobie, who has been promoted from regular lifeguard to captain of the Baywatch team—a position his father Mitch Buchannon (originally played by David Hasselhoff) formerly held.

Hobie's storyline introduces additional complexity with the arrival of his daughter Charlie, played by Jessica Belkin. Charlie creates tension when she decides to join Baywatch as a lifeguard, despite having no established relationship with her father. Other confirmed cast members include Noah Beck, Hassie Harrison, and Thaddeus LaGrone.

Eleniak's Career Trajectory and Personal Transformation

Eleniak's entertainment career began remarkably early when she appeared in the 1982 film E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial as the girl who kisses Henry Thomas's character in a classroom scene. Following television appearances on shows like Silver Spoons and Boys Will Be Boys, she gained prominence through her Baywatch role and simultaneous appearance on the cover of Playboy Magazine—a milestone shared with co-stars Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra.

Her filmography includes notable roles in Under Siege alongside Steven Seagal, the 1993 adaptation of The Beverly Hillbillies, and the cult classic 1988 remake of The Blob. More recently, she narrated the eight-episode podcast series The Murder Years in 2023 and appeared in the 2024 film Lolipop Gang as herself.

The actress has undergone a striking physical transformation in recent years, covering her body with meaningful tattoos. During an appearance on the Still Here Hollywood podcast, Eleniak explained that she began getting tattoos in her late twenties after leaving Baywatch, describing her body as "a canvas to tell my stories." Each tattoo holds personal significance, including one dedicated to her mother.

Eleniak's return to the Baywatch universe marks a full-circle moment for the actress, bridging the original series' legacy with Fox's contemporary reboot that blends nostalgic elements with fresh narratives and characters.
