Sam Dingle attacks his brother Cain in Emmerdale after discovering that Cain pressured Samson into attacking Tom King, a revelation that threatens to tear the Dingle family apart. The confrontation comes as Belle Dingle, still reeling from her abusive past with Tom, faces renewed fear of his retribution.
Cain's Unforgivable Stunt
Belle receives a wreath of dead flowers, which she sees as a thinly veiled threat. Cain believes her abusive ex Tom sent it, so he confronts him. Shortly afterwards, Charles Anderson arrives at the Dingles to tell them that Tom has been badly beaten, and Cain wastes no time in confessing that he organised the attack.
Belle is furious, but there is further news to upset the family – Samson is no longer being released. It transpires Cain pressured him into attacking Tom, and now he is facing fresh charges.
Sam's Outburst
A usually meek and mild Sam loses it, accusing Cain of not caring about his nephew. Their argument escalates, because Cain does not think he did anything wrong, and Sam punches him. Cain storms off as Sam is left sobbing.
Speaking of the damage this does to the once unbreakable family, Eden Taylor-Draper tells Metro: 'It kind of slashes them down the middle because Moira and Lydia are butting heads, because Matty is Moira's son and there's all of that with Samson. Sam and Cain are blown apart and Belle is so angry yet trying to keep them together. She doesn't want Tom to come between them any more than he has in the past. So, she's trying to build bridges, but she's still furious at Cain. It's a horrible environment at the Dingles'.
Belle's Decision
The brothers' relationship is in tatters when Sam gets the devastating call that Samson is looking at a long stretch inside for what he has done. When Sam arrives home, he insists that Cain and Moira move out, and Cain pushes the decision on Belle. She snaps – their petty little boy fight is no match for her facing her abusive ex.
Feeling afraid of Tom's retribution, Belle stuns the family by announcing she is going to visit him, and it is all thanks to them. Cain and Sam are left feeling ashamed.
