Emmerdale has confirmed that Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden, known as Robron, will be taking over Butlers Farm, marking a significant change for the soap. Robert, son of original Sugden family member Jack Sugden, is now in charge of the farm after Joe Tate moved him in to run the operation. This decision brings the Sugdens back to the forefront, a nostalgic move that returns the show to its roots.
However, the couple faces two huge obstacles. The first is the anger of the Dingle family, particularly Cain Dingle, who is furious that Moira sold the farm to the Tates. Cain has seemingly disowned Aaron and Robert for siding with the Tates, potentially driving a wedge between the couple just after their reunion. Robert is torn between the opportunity to reclaim the farm and the risk of upsetting the Dingles.
The second obstacle is Joe Tate himself, who has been blackmailing Robert. Joe forced Robert and his sister Victoria to give up their own farm land after Victoria killed their brother John. Robert was also blackmailed into framing Moira Dingle, leading to her imprisonment for a crime she did not commit. Now that Robert is effectively in Joe's pocket, the farm could become a tool for further manipulation and blackmail.
Moira sold the farm to the Tates while in prison, knowing it was time to part ways and put her family first. Cain was left reeling when he discovered the sale. Meanwhile, Joe dropped Robert in it over his agreement to run the farm, leaving the Dingles furious and Aaron forced to pick a side. The situation could lead to Robert making an enemy of himself and potentially jeopardising his relationship with Aaron.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
