Emmerdale's Kev Townsend Set for Dramatic Comeback
An Emmerdale character described as having a 'massive impact' is poised for a bombshell return to the village, ready to confront 'unfinished business' after fleeing in fear for his life. The fan favourite, involved in two major storylines before his initial exit, is set to reignite drama on the ITV soap.
Kev Townsend's Complex Past and Secrets
Kev Townsend, portrayed by actor Chris Coghill, was first introduced last year as Robert Sugden's secret husband, a marriage that occurred during Robert's time in prison. In a desperate attempt to salvage their relationship, Kev falsely claimed he was dying, a lie that was eventually exposed, adding layers of tension to the plot.
Additionally, Kev discovered he is the biological father of Lewis Barton, a fact that remains unknown to Lewis himself. This revelation adds a poignant layer to his character, intertwining family secrets with personal turmoil.
Escape and Unresolved Drama
Viewers last saw Kev narrowly escaping from killer John Sugden and warning Aaron Dingle of the impending danger. He left the village believing Lewis would be better off without him, but now, something has prompted a change of heart, drawing him back into the fold.
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw commented on the return, stating, 'Both Chris and the character of Kev made a massive impact on the show last year, so Chris is most definitely back by popular demand. With Kev’s son, Lewis, in the village still unaware of who his father is, it's safe to say that there’s a lot of unfinished business and drama ahead.'
Chris Coghill on Portraying Kev
Actor Chris Coghill expressed his enthusiasm, saying, 'I’m really pleased to be returning to Emmerdale, I had a brilliant time last year. Kev is a complex character that I love playing. He has psychopathic tendencies but also an energy and vulnerability that I think makes him pretty unique. I’m properly looking forward to getting back at it.'
Chris, aged 50, has an extensive acting portfolio, including roles in Slow Horses, Shameless, The Bay, and EastEnders, where he played groomer Tony King. He is scheduled to reappear as Kev later this year, promising intense storylines.
Other Emmerdale Developments
Meanwhile, the village sees other changes as Tracy Robinson, played by Amy Walsh since 2014, departs with her young daughter Frankie to escape tragic memories. Last year, she learned her husband Nate was killed by John Sugden, prompting her need for a fresh start.
In reality, actress Amy Walsh is on maternity leave after welcoming her second child with husband Toby-Alexander Smith. She shared the news on Instagram, receiving congratulations from co-stars and family, including sister Kimberley Walsh.
Emmerdale continues to air on ITV1 and is available for streaming on ITVX, keeping audiences engaged with its evolving narratives and character arcs.
