Emmerdale has seemingly confirmed Sadie King's real plan for Caleb Milligan, as the businesswoman admitted she genuinely has feelings for him, despite her earlier scheme with Joe Tate to destroy his marriage.
In Wednesday night's episode of the ITV soap, Sadie, played by Patsy Kensit, revealed there was more to her seduction of Caleb than the plot she had hatched with Joe. When Caleb asked why she slept with him, she candidly admitted: "Because I wanted to. I wish I didn't, but... Of course, but we both thought your marriage was over and we were wrong. Yeah, so wrong. I truly had nowhere to go, and that's how Joe got his claws in."
Sadie's Confession and Regret
Sadie, who returned to the soap a few months ago but is set to leave again early next year, expressed remorse over her actions. She told Caleb: "But I'm done with using and abusing people any more - especially the ones that I like. I'm only here half standing because of you and Ruby."
Towards the end of the episode, she explained her intentions: "I just wanna get my head down and work and try and crawl my way out of this gutter to live the life I deserve." She told Ruby: "This one might take longer to achieve, but... ..good things come to those who wait..." as she looked on at Caleb, even though he had made it clear earlier that he doesn't love her.
Fan Reactions and Speculation
Predicting that trouble is on the cards, one fan wrote on Reddit: "this episode was like the calm before the storm but I still don’t understand what sadie’s plan is I genuinely think that sadie likes caleb or she might be using him idk.. only time will tell."
Another said: "Shame Joe always wins. True to real life that wealthy and powerful people can get away with so many things. Able to manipulate the justice system too," and a third claimed that Sadie had been "lying her socks off as usual."
Ruby's Potential Revenge
Amid the whole twisted plot, Sadie previously decided to set Ruby up to make her and everyone else in the village think she was suffering from an alcohol issue. She then convinced Caleb that Ruby had cheated on him with Ross Barton. So Caleb did the unthinkable and declared his marriage was over, before jumping into bed with Sadie.
But amid concerns that Ruby and Caleb will split for good, could Ruby be the one to expose Sadie for once and for all ahead of her exit early next year? In her wrath, and knowing what Ruby is capable of, could she end up triggering Sadie's downfall, and maybe even taking revenge?
Fans certainly think or hope so, with one writing: "Sadie is in need of another slap, this time from Ruby! I can’t wait she’s found out on this manipulation ride she’s on with Caleb and Ruby!" Another fan said: "I'm hoping Ruby has her figured out and will be the one to take her down after what she's doing to her, it's so awful." A third added: "I had a thought, maybe Caleb and Ruby ate playing Sadie?"
A fourth fan commented: "I really thought at first that Ruby was pretending to fall for Sadie's tricks but now I can't believe how she's not seeing it. The alcohol and the lies and the searching around the depot, it's all so obvious. I really hope Ruby sees sense soon and takes revenge on Sadie. Sadie needs a downfall. Maybe Ruby and Nicola can team up and take down Sadie."
