Emmerdale: Kim stabs Thea in panic after kidnap twist

Kim Tate (Claire King) stabs Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) in a panicked struggle after accusing her of kidnapping step-grandson Joe Tate's (Ned Porteous) baby in Emmerdale.

Thea, who came to the village to investigate the death of Dr Todd (Caroline Harker), has been secretly plotting revenge against the mother who abandoned her. She has been befriending Kim, who has no idea Thea is her daughter. Kim is distracted by her own secret: she took the baby to live in a cottage with Graham (Andrew Scarborough) after Joe gave the child away against her wishes. Joe believes the illegal adoption went ahead and that Graham left, unaware that his son is nearby.

Kim Realises the Baby Is Missing

Kim is thrown into panic when she discovers the baby is gone, kidnapped. The kidnapper sends ransom demands via a tablet, giving Graham instructions. Actress Claire King said: 'She can’t believe it. She doesn’t know if it is kidnappers wanting some ransom or whether somebody in the family has taken him. She is in complete panic mode, so she has to ring Graham immediately and find out what’s happening.'

Desperate to keep the police away, Kim asks Thea for help, unaware that Thea is her own daughter. Thea, who has been playing Kim to get close, sees this as the perfect opportunity and agrees.

Thea's Secret Motive Uncovered

Thea appears all too keen to help, but Kim has another realisation: Thea previously went after her in the wake of Dawn's death, using fabricated evidence to claim Kim caused it by dangerous driving. Kim now believes Thea stole the baby and directly accuses her.

Thea loses her temper, escalating rapidly. Kim, fearing for her life, rushes to leave and grabs a knife, stabbing Thea in the process.

A Race Against Time

Claire King explained the scenes: 'Thea turns up and at first, Kim doesn’t think it’s her at all. She tells her what’s going on, the noises, the bangs, things like that. Then Kim suddenly thinks ‘oh my Gosh, it’s Thea’. So she tries to run and escapes, she hides. But Thea comes through the back door before she can bolt it. As she’s running round the tables, she slips and Thea manages to grab hold of her. In a panic, she’s thinking ‘I am going to get hurt’. She just happens to stumble across a sharp cheese knife, and in her panicked state, she stabs Thea.'

Thea is bleeding out, but Kim still pushes her to confess to stealing the child. When a weakened Thea accuses Kim of trying to sell the baby, Kim realises she is innocent and that she made a mistake. Thea then passes out, and Kim rushes her to hospital, where a doctor immediately plans to call the police. Kim faces the prospect of prison as she wonders if she has killed her own daughter without knowing it.
