Emmerdale viewers believe they have uncovered what Dr Liam Cavanagh is concealing, with a secret brother plot twist suspected. Liam (Jonny McPherson) first appeared on the long-running soap in 2014 as the village doctor and has since become a firm favourite, featuring in numerous major storylines, from romantic entanglements to the tragic death of his daughter Leanna (Mimi Slinger). He was also caught up in the devastating limo crash of 2025, which claimed the lives of several villagers, including his former partner Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi).
Liam's Secretive Behaviour
A fresh storyline has emerged for the popular character, with Liam apparently concealing a secret from his partner Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter). Initially, he appeared distracted by his mobile phone, something that did not go unnoticed by Chas. He was subsequently spotted sending messages to a mystery individual, informing them he would be with them shortly but needed "to get away without anyone knowing."
Chas also witnessed Liam emerging from fellow cast member Manpreet Sharma's (Rebecca Sarker) car and confronted him, accusing the pair of conducting an affair — an allegation he firmly denied.
Wedding Date Revealed
Wednesday's episode (October 27) only heightened viewers' suspicions further. During the instalment, Chas surprised Liam with their wedding date: January next year. They then headed to the Woolpack to celebrate their impending big day with fellow residents.
However, Liam quickly became evasive while speaking to a man called David about his upbringing in Kingston down south. According to David, that particular area was his local patch, yet he was not familiar with any Cavanaghs.
Fans' Theory
Viewers are now convinced they have worked out Liam's secret, and it concerns a Dingle family favourite. On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, one person wrote: "Wonder what Liam is hiding from his past?" Another viewer proposed Liam might be the secret sibling of Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), writing: "He could be a Dingle. Cain's brother." A third agreed and said: "I would love that." Another fan added: "Yeah he's definitely hiding something, that's a good theory."
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
