Emmerdale fans are convinced Tom King will target DS Thea Ramsden next, as his release from prison looms and Belle Dingle remains fearful of his return.
Tom, now played by James Chase, first appeared on the ITV soap in 2004 as the nephew of Jimmy King (Nick Miles). His 2023 return saw him begin a relationship with Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper), which ended in marriage. However, Tom's abusive behaviour soon emerged, as he subjected Belle to more than a year of psychological manipulation and physical violence. He also falsely claimed their dog Piper had died, triggering Belle's mental collapse.
In December 2024, Tom was sentenced to three years in prison for assault and coercive control against Belle. Since then, Belle has rebuilt her life, starting a relationship with Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) and running the wedding business Take A Vow.
Tom's Return and Belle's Fears
Last month, news broke that Tom's release was imminent, leaving Belle frightened. Despite licence conditions legally preventing him from approaching her, Belle remained convinced Tom would circumvent the restrictions.
Thursday's episode (5 November) saw Tom return to screens when Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) confronted him in prison, suspecting Tom had sent Belle an enigmatic flower arrangement. Cain was unaware the flowers had come from one of Belle's clients, and he remained unconvinced by Tom's denial.
It became clear Tom had not reformed while behind bars. He took satisfaction in antagonising Cain about his cancer ordeal. With his release approaching, viewers expect him to return to the village.
Fans Speculate on a New Romance
On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, one viewer asked: "Wonder who James will prey on next when he's back?" Another suggested DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge), Kim Tate's (Claire King) secret daughter, commenting: "I can see him and Thea maybe." A third agreed: "Same here."
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
