Emmerdale's Dr Todd is facing imminent downfall as Charity Dingle finally takes action against her blackmailer and rapist. In Tuesday's episode, newcomer Serena Sugden convinced Charity to report Todd to the police and provided crucial advice on gathering evidence.
Charity's Breaking Point
Charity had been at breaking point since Todd sexually assaulted her after blackmailing her over the secret that baby Leyla is her child, not Sarah Sugden's. Todd fled the village after the assault, but Charity initially withdrew her police report due to lack of evidence.
In the latest episode, Charity confided in Serena about the assault, the baby secret, and the blackmail. Serena urged Charity to expose Todd, even if it meant revealing everything to her family. Charity feared the impact on her husband Mack and granddaughter Sarah, but Serena argued the truth would set her free.
Evidence and Confession
Serena guided Charity on how to build a case, pointing out that messages between them would serve as evidence of blackmail. This gave Charity the resolve to go to the police again. Before that, she returned home and told Mack she needed to confess something, indicating she will reveal both the assault and the baby secret.
Spoilers for next week confirm Charity does report Todd to the police. However, she is dismayed to learn the blackmail allegation will be treated separately from the sexual assault charge, fearing Todd may escape justice for the rape.
Serena's Mysterious Past
Meanwhile, Serena sparks suspicion when she mentions knowing about Robert's murderous brother, John, to relative Sarah. It is also teased that Kev recognises Serena from somewhere, hinting at a hidden backstory.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
