EastEnders aired dramatic scenes on Thursday night as Sam Mitchell, played by Kim Medcalf, left Albert Square after exposing Phil Mitchell's affair with Emma Harding. The revelation came during a joint birthday party for Phil and Kat Slater at the Queen Vic, where Sam took to the karaoke microphone to drop the bombshell.
Sam's exit followed a tense confrontation with Phil over a £100,000 inheritance from Aunt Sal. Phil agreed to give Sam her share on the condition that she leave Walford for good. After handing over the money, Phil told her: 'Take it, pack your bags, and get out of my life because I want you gone tonight.'
In the aftermath, Sam was shunned by other residents and forced to leave, having split Kat and Phil and caused a rift between Kat and Alfie Moon. Actress Kim Medcalf, who has played Sam on and off since 2002, described her recent stint as 'brilliant' and 'perfect timing'. She added: 'She’s been chucked out the back of a van, taken £100k from Phil to pay back a drug dealer and then blown up his marriage to Kat! Hopefully, she’ll be back again sometime for another stint of causing chaos.'
Medcalf praised her co-stars Steve McFadden (Phil) and Jessie Wallace (Kat), saying working opposite them immediately elevates any scene. She also joked about taking a shot glass from Peggy's as a keepsake. EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
