EastEnders fans have been left feeling 'so confused' after spotting a major character 'continuity error' involving Nugget Gulati. The confusion arose during a scene where Nugget claimed his 18th birthday was 'not far away', despite previously being established as 16 or 17 years old.
The error comes amid a week of schedule changes for the soap, which aired outside its usual 7.30pm slot due to Wimbledon coverage. No episodes aired on Monday or Tuesday, with two episodes on Wednesday and a rare Friday showing. Episodes have also been released early on iPlayer, leaving online viewers three episodes ahead.
In the episode, Avani Nandra-Hart was planning her 16th birthday party with help from her brother Nugget. When Avani said she was 'only 16 once', Nugget replied that his '18th ain't far away'. This contradicts earlier storylines suggesting Nugget is 16 or 17, and that he is in the same school year as Denzel Danes, who was recently said to be turning 17.
Fans took to social media to express their confusion. One viewer wrote: 'So confused about the age gap between Nugget & Avani? He’s meant to be born in Sept 2008 & her in July 2009... But he reckons he’s 18 soon & yet is in the same class as Denzel who said he was 17 soon.' Another commented: 'The continuity is messy I swear wadey didn’t read the files for characters ages.'
The error has sparked debate among fans, with some suggesting the actress playing Avani may be pushing for her character to be aged up. The show has not commented on the discrepancy.
