DIY SOS turns tense as Nick Knowles fuming over setback

Nick Knowles was left frustrated during a new episode of BBC's DIY SOS after a major setback in what he described as "one of our toughest builds ever." The beloved programme returned to screens on Tuesday evening with Nick at the helm, as the team headed to Kidderminster.

There, the BBC team met a family whose lives revolve around caring for their son Nathan. The 11-year-old can have up to 200 seizures a day and needs round-the-clock care, leaving parents John and Emma exhausted. Meanwhile, teenage sister Kira had seen more and more of her home taken over by Nathan's needs.

Team aims to transform family home

With the help of hundreds of volunteers, the team aimed to create a home that kept Nathan safe while giving the whole family the space to live together again. During the build, the team planned to transform the home, including adding an 8 metre extension.

However, things took a dramatic turn when Nick and the team realised they had made a major mistake that had huge consequences. Interior designer Gaby Blackman said: "I'm freaking out about this room," referring to Nathan's bedroom and kitchen.

Supporting wall accidentally knocked down

Nick then arrived and went to see what the problem was. He sternly said: "There seems to be a lot of people staring at plans this morning and not a lot of activity." Nick added: "I left here thinking we had this under control, what is the problem?"

In a voice over Nick explained: "Where we are were building Nathan's new bedroom and bathroom, we've accidentally knocked down part of a supporting wall." The team then put in dozens of steel props to stop the house above from collapsing and Nick was told that rebuilding the brick walls could take days.

Nick admits stress over promise

An unimpressed Nick replied: "That's frustrating." Outside, Nick admitted: "It is a finite amount of time to deliver on a promise we made, I made specifically." Taking off his hard hat to run his finger through his hair, Nick added: "Whenever I start to run my hand through my hair like that that's when I'm stressed. I need one of those stress ball things."

He then confessed: "You just don't promise someone something and don't deliver, I can't." Meanwhile, Gaby shared: "What really worries me is when a build team of that experience is really panicking." Fortunately, a structural engineer was called in and managed to assist Nick and the team to sort out the problem.
