Delta Goodrem has given fans a candid look at her recovery from a reported rib injury after her return to Strictly Come Dancing was confirmed. The Australian singer, partnered with professional dancer Kai Widdrington, missed week four of the BBC One competition last weekend after doctors advised her to rest, meaning she could not perform during the new annual Icons Week special.
Emotional absence and confirmed return
Delta had been expected to pay tribute to the late Olivia Newton-John during the show, but instead watched her fellow competitors continue from home, visibly fighting tears as hosts Josh Widdicombe, Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe gave her a shoutout. She responded by saying "love you too" and blowing kisses towards the camera, later captioning her Instagram Story: "Thanks team, it's been a rough week [heart emoji]. Love you guys! @josh_widdicombe @johannesradebe @emmawillisofficial."
On Monday (October 19), Strictly's social media channels confirmed her return, stating: "Following her bye last week due to injury, we're delighted to confirm Delta has been given the all clear to dance again this weekend."
Physio and album work continue
Delta has since been seen back in training with Kai, though her physio is still ongoing. On Wednesday (October 21), she shared an update on Instagram, revealing she is set to appear on The Voice Germany. She told followers: "Berlin throwback! On the show this Friday! Lucky we filmed all these wonderful, incredible things in advance because this week is slow and steady and anything to get back on the dancefloor."
She followed up with a picture of herself on a physio bed, writing: "And a current update! Well looked after and focusing on healing every day!" Delta has also been working on her next album, adding: "Add an album deadline of course! Running with the final mixes every morning and night time."
Kai's supportive words
Earlier in the week, Kai offered his own update while speaking to reporters on the red carpet at the Pride of Britain Awards. He said of Delta: "She's good, she's good. Baby steps, but she's a pro, her attitude is so good."
